Infant reported to have contracted coronavirus from mother who was COVID-19 positive

Public Health officials confirmed on Saturday that an infant has in fact contracted the coronavirus from its mother who was coronavirus positive.

NBC Affiliate KRIS Six News reports that Corpus Christi/Nueces County Public Health Director Annette Rodriguez said that the baby was born at some point within the past three weeks and that it’s current status is unknown.

According to the Mayo Clinic, newborns can become infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 during childbirth or by exposure to sick caregivers after delivery.
