The UIL announced their adjustments to the upcoming Texas high school football season on Tuesday. The most significant headline was that the sanctioning body decided to delay the start of the season for Class 6A and Class 5A by more than five weeks and pushing the first games back by four weeks. Week 1 of games, originally scheduled for August 27-29, will now take place September 24-26; the start of practice will move from August 3 to September 7.
The UIL said this morning that Class 4A and below will start as previously scheduled.
The UIL almost had to take some sort of action due to some of the largest districts in the state in large swaths of the state were not to be allowed to start practices on August 3.
Veterans Memorial HS and Flour Bluff, both 5A schools will be impacted. Calallen, Miller, Tuloso-Midway and Carroll, which are now ranked in 4A will in essence stick to previously announced plans.
