TWIA Board Set To Meet On August 4th; Public Comment Is Being Taken Until July 31
There are two types of disasters that Coastal Texas residents are well of and understand that they need to keep their guard up for: Hurricanes and TWIA. While you might not be able to do anything about the natural disaster, you can at least put in your comments for the manmade disaster.
August marks the annual rate filing for the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) and members of the public will hav e their chance to stand up and let their voice be heard over any potential rate hike ahead of the Board of Directors Meeting.
To file your comments you have until Noon on July 31, 2020. You may email your comments to firstname.lastname@example.org before the deadline.
On Tuesday, TWIA internal modelers suggested a significant rate increase to the Actuary and Underwriting Committee of TWIA. However, the Committee itself says that they are recommending a zero rate increase. But, it is the insurance lobby and we all know how they operate.
So, here is your chance to make sure that you send them a message and make your voice heard and give your opinion on the matter.
The editorial staff of the Southside Light has been public ally opposed to the rate hike recommendations due to modeling, organizational mismanagement and blatant disregard for Public records laws. We maintain that position and will stand with our readership to oppose any rate now or in the future until the association can prove a solid change of behavior.
