Suicidal suspect taken into custody after standoff with police
A standoff in Calallen has ended after a suicidal suspect was taken into custody.
Police say that just before 3:00 pm on Sunday, officers were dispatched to a call for suicide threats on the 13000 block of Northwest Blvd. in Calallen. Corpus Christi police say that they also received calls from a nearby fast food restaurant for shots fired.
Police say that after making contact with the suspect they determined he was in crisis. SWAT officers were on scene and could be seen moving in on the suspect using an armored vehicle moments before the situation ended. Reporters were being told to move back as police closed in using their armored truck. Police say that less than lethal tools were utilized to subdue the man and he was taken into custody around 5:00 pm.
For a brief time a nearby Walmart store, several restaurants and other businesses were placed on lockdown.
Police did not indicate the the extent of any injuries exactly what less than lethal force was used to bring the man into custody. His condition is unknown.
