Scott Turner who serves as executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council toured Corpus Christi this week to take a look at local projects underway here in our community.
The HUD based program is a collaboration of 17 Federal agencies and Federal-State partnerships with a mandate to identify and disseminate best practices for utilizing the Opportunity Zones tax incentive and existing Federal resources to stimulate economic growth and revitalization.
HUD says that there are 8,764 Opportunity Zones in the United States, and some of them are right here in our own community. The agency says these areas have experienced a lack of investment for decades. These so-called Opportunity Zones are an incentive to spur private and public investment in these underserved communities.
Here in Corpus Christi nearly 35,000 residents live in 8 opportunity zones, some of which were toured on Wednesday.
